Da Brat was born Shawntae Harris on April 14, 1974, in Chicago, Illinois. She spent her youth in Chicago’s West Side neighborhood.

Her parents, David Ray McCoy and Beverly Calloway gave birth to Brat. David, her father, is a businessman, and Beverly, her mother, is a municipal bus driver.

She had spent her formative years living in two distinct residences due to her parents’ unmarried status.

Brat was a regular attendee of the Apostolic church, where she sang in the choir. In terms of education, she attended Kenwood Academy for her junior and sophomore years.

She took an active role in basketball games and even ran in a track event. Bart graduated from the Academy of Scholastic Achievement in 1992.
