Drake began acting at the age of five, encouraged by his father, who immediately recognized Drake’s talent and confidence while public speaking, as well as his outstanding impersonations of celebrities he saw on television. Bell made his television debut in a 1994 episode of “Home Improvement.” 

Simultaneously, he filmed his first national television commercial for Whirlpool Appliances. He was nominated for a Young Artist Award in 2000 for his performance in the made-for-television film “The Jack Bull.”

Bell’s career took a significant leap forward in 2004 when he co-starred on Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh” alongside his real-life friend and actor Josh Peak. The show was created exclusively for them.

Peak also appeared on “The Amanda Show” from 1999 to 2002 as a featured performer. Drake Bell has been the recipient of nine Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

On December 29, 2005, Bell and a friend were driving from Malibu to Los Angeles when they were struck by an oncoming vehicle while stopped at a red light on California State Route 1.

While Bell’s passenger sustained only bruises, Bell sustained serious injuries, including a fractured neck and vertebra, a broken jaw, the loss of seven teeth, and deep lacerations to his face. Bell required more than 70 facial stitches, had his jaw wired shut for two months, and underwent chin and mouth surgery as part of his recovery.

Bell paid $2,050,000 for a 2,640-square-foot (245 m2) house in Los Feliz in 2007. The house was taken into foreclosure in early 2014 after Bell filed for bankruptcy in California.

Bell is a cousin of Heath Bell, a former San Diego Padres relief pitcher.

Melissa Lingafelt, his former girlfriend from the late 2000s, accused him of verbal and physical abuse in August 2020. Bell has vehemently denied the charges.
