Kendra Scott was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on March 27, 1974. She and her family relocated to Houston, Texas, when she was sixteen. In terms of schooling, she graduated from Klein High School.

She then spent a year at Texas A&M University. She dropped out of college and relocated to Austin, where she assisted her ailing stepfather. While in Texas, she began creating her own jewelry.
