Tate McRae was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 1, 2003.

She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a Scottish father and a German mother. She spends her early life in Oman.

She learned to dance from her mother when living in Oman. She began training in recreational dance at the age of six.

Tate developed an interest in dance as she grew older, and she even competed in the Drewitz Dancing Productions dance competition.

Tate received training in all genres of dance from the YYC Dance Project. Her mother was the owner of the dance company. She also studied dance at the School of Alberta Ballet.
