Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard was born in Waterloo, New South Wales, a neighbourhood near Redfern in Sydney’s inner south, on 17 August 2003. Howard’s mother began playing him songs like the Fugees, Erykah Badu, and Tupac when he was a small child.

His parents are prominent figures in the music industry, and he has one younger brother. Nick Howard, his father, is a music producer and sound engineer who has collaborated with Australian artists such as Bardot and Delta Goodrem.

Sloane Howard, his mother, was an Aboriginal talent manager, record label founder, and music executive who previously managed Popstars winner Scott Cain.

Howard’s father was a sporadic presence in his childhood, and as a result, his uncle became his male role. Howard’s uncle was assassinated in 2015. Howard credits his motivation to succeed to a desire to escape a fate similar to that of his uncle and to make him proud.

Howards’ life became more turbulent when his parents divorced when he was four. Howard mentioned that his mother occasionally sold narcotics to make ends meet. He relocated to the rural town of Broken Hill in New South Wales with his mother, brother, and grandparents when he was seven years old.
