Beaumont was born in the Kansas city of Lawrence. Ethel Adaline Whitney and Edward H. Beaumont, a traveling salesman who kept the family on the move, were his parents.
He attended the University of Chattanooga, where he played football, after graduating from the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1930. He later attended the University of Southern California, earning a master’s degree in theology in 1946.
